Code of Conduct

The Institution has a prescribed code of conduct for students, teachers, administrators and other staff and conducts periodic programmes in this regard

Matoshri college of Engineering and Research Centre, Eklahare Nashik, hereinafter referred to as the ‘Institute’ for all students enrolling with the Institute for pursuing varied courses. All students must know that it is incumbent upon them to abide by this Code of Ethics and Conduct (hereinafter referred to as the ‘Code’) and the rights, responsibilities including the restrictions flowing from it. All Students are requested to be well conversant with this Code, which can be also reviewed on the official website of the Institute. Being a member of the Professional Organization, it becomes obligatory for the members to follow a certain code of conduct during their stay at the Institute. Our Institute is known for strict discipline and sound academics. As a member of institute, we should maintain the highest ethical standards. Institution’s reputation is one of the most important assets. Institution is monitoring ethical performance regularly to ensure the unethical practices are eliminated.

  • The Institute shall have the jurisdiction over the conduct of the students associated /enrolled with the Institute and to take cognizance of all acts of misconduct including incidents of ragging or otherwise which are taking place on the Institute campus or in connection with the Institute related activities and functions.
  • Institute may also exercise jurisdiction over conduct which occurs off-campus violating the ideal student conduct and discipline as laid down in this Policy and other regulations, as if the conduct has occurred on campus which shall include:
    • Any violations of the Sexual Harassment Policy of the Institute against other students of the Institute.
    • Physical assault, threats of violence, or conduct that threatens the health or safety of any person including other students of the Institute
    • Possession or use of weapons, explosives, or destructive devices off campus.
    • Manufacture, sale, or distribution of prohibited drugs, alcohol etc.
    • Conduct which has a negative impact or constitutes a nuisance to members of the surrounding off- campus community.

The Institute, while determining whether or not to exercise such off-campus jurisdiction in situations enumerated hereinabove, the Institute shall consider the seriousness of the alleged offense, the risk of harm involved, whether the victim(s) are members of the campus community and/or whether the off-campus conduct is part of a series of actions, which occurred both on, and off-campus.

Code of conducts for:
  1. General Conduct Rules and Guidelines

    While the students as adult citizens of the country enjoy their rights, they also are expected to be aware of their responsibilities. The institute will not support any act that is illegal as construed by the law of the land. As adults, the students are expected to have a fair sense of which act is legal and what is illegal. They should conduct themselves both inside and outside the institute in a manner that is befitting an institute of this stature. In addition to being mature and responsible in conduct, the students are expected to respect the rights of the other students of MCOERC Eklahare, Nashik. The Institute encourages an all- round development of students’ personality and their progressive and creative thinking. At the same time, in order that they effectively discharge civic responsibilities and virtues, the institute sets its own terms of conduct that must be adhered to by the students.

  2. General Discipline
    • A student indulging in ragging can be subjected to:
      • Debarred from Classes
      • Debarred from Examinations
      • Cancellation of Admission
      • Initiation of criminal action
    • Students have to wear the identity card and Uniform within the college campus and while representing our college elsewhere.
    • Talking in English in the college-premises is mandatory.
    • At the stroke of the first bell all students are to move towards the classroom and occupy their seats.
    • The students are expected to keep standing in silence during prayer There is a short prayer at 7.55 am and teaching-learning process begins at 8.00 am.
    • Student are to use the institute resources optimally, safely and responsibly.
  3. Ethics and Conduct
    • This Code shall apply to all kinds of conduct of students that occurs on the Institute premises including in university sponsored activities, functions hosted by other recognized student organizations and any off-campus conduct that has or may have serious consequences or adverse impact on the Institute’s Interests or reputation.
    • A student should abide by the following:
      • He/she shall be regular and must complete his/her studies in the Institute.
      • In the event, a student is forced to discontinue studies for any legitimate reason, such a student may be relieved from the Institute subject to written consent of the Principal
      • As a result of such relieving, the student shall be required to clear pending hostel / mess dues and if a student had joined the Institute on a scholarship, the said grant shall be revoked.
    • Students are expected not to interact, on behalf of the Institute, with media representatives or invite media persons on to the campus without the permission of the Institute authorities.
    • Students are not permitted to either audio or video record lectures in class rooms or actions of other students, faculty, or staff without prior permission.
    • Students are not permitted to provide audio and video clippings of any activity on the campus to media without prior permission.
    • Students are expected to use the social media carefully and responsibly. They cannot post derogatory comments about other individuals from the Institute on the social media or indulging in any such related activities having grave ramifications on the reputation of the Institute.
    • Theft or abuse of the Institute computers and other electronic resources such as computer and electronic communications facilities, systems, and services which includes unauthorized entry, use, tamper, etc. of Institute property or facilities, private residences of staff/professors etc. offices, classrooms, computers networks, and other restricted facilities and interference with the work of others is punishable.
    • Making a video/audio recording, taking photographs, or streaming audio/video of any person in a location where the person has a reasonable expectation of privacy, without that person’s knowledge and express consent.
  4. Conduct during Class Hours
    • Only authorized persons can enter the classroom during working hours.
    • Students should avoid loitering on the verandahs and campus, during academic hours.
    • Students should move from one class to another without causing any inconvenience to others.
    • Students should maintain dignity and decorum in all common gatherings.
  5. Notice – Board
    • Students are expected to go through daily, the information displayed on the relevant notice-boards. Ignorance is not as an excuse.
    • Only with the permission of Principal/HoD/Section Head, any notice can be put up and/ and any handbill can be circulated.
  6. Eco – Friendly Zone

    Students are responsible to keep the campus clean. They keep the campus litter- free. Our campus is “Smoke-Free and Plastic-Free”.

  7. Code of Behavior
    • Use and possession of drinks and drugs imply immediate dismissal from the college.
    • Smoking in the campus (including the college hostel) is prohibited.
    • Under the Educational Rules of the Government, students resorting to ragging in any form within and outside the campus will be expelled from the college.
    • Use of mobile phones is prohibited inside the college campus. Possession/ use of cell phones within the campus will invite severe punishment.
    • Decency demands that students are not involved in any kind of wild, noisy and disturbing behavior during celebrations.
    • Racing the vehicles or use of vehicles with defective silencers are not permitted.
    • Use of Helmets and observing safety measures while driving in and out are mandatory.
  8. Anti-ragging committee

    As constituted by the Principal and headed by student’s affairs advisors shall examine all complaints of anti-ragging and come out with recommendation based on the nature of the incident. The committee shall be headed by student’s affairs advisors, and can have as its members, the HOD, Faculty Advisors, and Chairperson of the concerned Department.

  9. Anti-ragging squad

    To render assistance to students, an Anti-Ragging Squad, which is a smaller body, has also been constituted consisting of various members of the campus community. The said Squad shall keep a vigil on ragging incidents taking place in the community and undertake patrolling functions. Students may note that the Squad is active and alert at all times and are empowered to inspect places of potential ragging, and also make surprise raids in hostels and other hotspots in the Institute. The Squad can also investigate incidents of ragging and make recommendations to the Anti-Ragging Committee and shall work under the guidance of the Anti-Ragging Committee.

    A student found guilty by the committee will attract one or more of the following punishments, as imposed by the Anti-Ragging Committee:

    • Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges
    • Withholding/ withdrawing scholarship/ fellowship and other benefits
    • Debarring from appearing in any test/ examination or other evaluation process
    • Withholding results
    • Debarring from undertaking any collaborative work or attending national or international conferences/symposia/meeting to present his/her research work
    • Suspension/ expulsion from the hostels and mess
    • Cancellation of admission
  10. Sexual Harassments

    The Institute’s Policy on prevention and prohibition of sexual harassment at workplace, 2016 shall apply mutatis mutandis to the students of the Institute Students should note that sexual misconduct or harassment encompasses a range of conduct, including but not limited to sexual assault, unwanted touching or persistent unwelcome comments, e-mails, or pictures of an insulting or degrading sexual nature, which may constitute harassment, which shall depend of the circumstances of each case.

  1. Responsibility and Accountability for Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff
    • Teachers should handle the subjects assigned by the HOD.
    • Teachers should complete the syllabus in time. Teachers shall produce good results in the subjects handled by them and are accountable for the same.
    • Tutor – Ward system must be effectively implemented. Teachers shall monitor the respective group of students who are attached to them.
    • Concurrent evaluation components should be designed in such a way that the faculty can monitor the student learning & development and intervene wherever required.
    • The faculty must share the outcome of each concurrent evaluation component with the students, soon after the evaluation, and guide the students for betterment.
    • Individual faculty member shall have the flexibility to design the concurrent evaluation components in a manner so as to give a balanced assessment of student capabilities across Knowledge, Skills & Attitude (KSA) dimensions based on variety of assessment tools.
    • Teachers should be good counselors and Facilitators. They should help, guide, encourage and assist the students to ensure that the Teaching-Learning Process is effective and successful. Value based education must be their motto.
    • Teachers should maintain decorum both inside and outside the classroom and set a good example to the students.
    • Teachers should carry out other academic, co-curricular and organizational activities that may be assigned to them from time to time.
  2. General Discipline for all staff
    • Staff have to wear the identity card and Uniform within the college campus and while representing our college elsewhere
    • Staff are to use the institute resources optimally, safely and responsibly.
    • No teacher should involve himself/ herself in any act of moral turpitude on his / her part which may cause impairment or bring discredit to the institution or Management.
    • Teachers Associations should not be formed without the permission of the Management.
    • No teacher should involve himself or herself in any form of political activity inside or outside the campus.
    • Teachers should attend the College neatly dressed. Dress regulations should be followed as the occasion demands.
    • Any instructions issued by the Competent Authority by way of Circulars from time to time must be complied with.
    • No teacher shall send circulars / distribute handbills to the staff, organize meetings in the campus without permission from the Principal.
    • Teachers are barred from using cell phones while taking classes.
    • Teachers must always wear their identity badges while inside the college premises.
    • Heads of Departments must submit the Department’s time table and individual teacher’s time tables to the Principal.
    • Teachers are encouraged to conduct research on their topic of interest. Management will provide necessary infrastructure for the same.
    • Teachers are expected to attend Department academic association meetings, seminars etc. and also college functions like Sports Day, the Cultural fest, Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations without fail.
    • Teachers are expected to Volunteer, to take up extra classes for students of Certificate, Diploma and other Career Oriented Programs.
    • No representation to any Government authority or University in the name of the College should be made, by any teacher, without the Principal or Secretary’s permission.
    • Non-Teaching staff working in the College office or departments should remain on Duty during College hours (10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.). They should report for duty atleast 10 minutes in advance
    • Non-Teaching staff must always wear their identity badge during working hours.
    • Any Loss or damage to any article in the office or Class Room should be reported to the HOD in writing immediately.
    • For articles damaged by the students a separate register should be maintained and if any money is collected from the student towards damages, as per the direction of the HOD, the amount shall be handed over to the College Accounts Staff, for deposit in the College account.
    • Non-teaching staff will carry out their duties as instructed by the authorities to whom they are attached
  3. Punctuality and Attendance
    • Teachers must report in time to duty as per the working hours prescribed and should be available in the campus unless and otherwise, they are assigned duties elsewhere.
    • Prior written permission should be obtained for reporting late in the morning or leaving early in the evening without detriment to their duties. This is subject to restrictions as regards frequency. Permission for going out of the College shall not be given during the class hours.
    • Teachers should sign the attendance register while reporting for duty.
    • Teachers are expected to be present in the college campus at least 10 minutes before the College beginning time.
    • Teachers should remain in the campus till the end of the College hours.
  4. Leave
    • Prior written permission is required from the Principal at least a day in advance while availing CL or OD.
    • 8 days of causal leave can be availed in a calendar year.
    • All must report for duty on the reopening day and the last working day of each semester.
    • Medical Leave will be sanctioned only for medical reasons. Medical Certificate will be verified for its genuineness.
    • Study leave for higher studies will be granted at the discretion of the management.
  5. Eco – Friendly Zone

Executive decisions are taken during the meeting of the Governing Body and these decisions leave the impacts in the consequent implementations and growth. Good governance monitors the implementations through all-inclusive and agreeable processes with utmost transparency and honesty. The Institute believes in observing the code of conduct at every level of the hierarchy. There are certain objectives in observing the Code at the Governing Body level. These objectives are:

  • To formulate the set of ethical principles unanimously
  • To induce the belief and trust in the Governing Body
  • To set a robust mechanism for the prevention of unethical and immoral practices
  • To observe the ethical and moral standard confined to all activities in the Institute

All the members of the Governing Body are expected to observe the Code of Conduct related to Integrity, Information Disclosures and Confidentiality, Transparency in purchase and procurement, Auditing, Loyalty, Fairness, Accountability, Responsibility and timely review. The openness will definitely improve the practices and policies periodically.

Administration is the key in the execution of the tasks at various levels of hierarchy. Policy making, planning, execution, overseeing, assessment, review and reinforcement are the major tasks involved in administration. Fair practices with sufficient transparency yield the desired outcomes with ethical flavor. There is a defined code of conduct for the administrators at various levels of hierarchy. All these administrators are expected to adhere to the code of conduct, which has the following objectives:

  • To observe the stringent observance against unethical and immoral practices
  • To prevent any malpractice, unethical practices and negligence appropriately
  • To observe the ethical and moral standard confined to all activities administered
  • To observe integrity and confidentiality
  • To follow the practices with transparency and fairness
  • To follow the protocols in delegating and reporting
